It is also clear that we can catch the attention of somebody using non verbal comunication, for instance; we are in a conference and you are the one who is giving the lecture, and you see someone on the crowd that looks like he or she is not listening, if you stare at him or ask him something about what you just said, It will be clear that at that point that person will start paying attention. Also we can do that with mates in the class or coworkers, staring at them or touching them there are many ways of having their attention without using the verbal comunication.
I would like to end saying that it is right that this type of comunication works, because is the comunication that the humanity used before any language appeared in the earth
